Prevention
Although statistics indicate a significant improvement in the number of motor vehicle crashes on New Mexico roads from previous years, the crash-related physical, emotional, and financial burdens on the citizens of this State are still too high.
Factors such as drunk driving, distracted driving, and improper seatbelt use have one thing in common: they are 100% preventable.
In 2014 New Mexico has suffered more than 299 traffic fatalities, 39.5% of which involved alcohol, and 36% were not wearing a seatbelt. Distracted driving is yet another threat that is plaguing our roadways, as cell phone use continues to grow. While some traffic accidents cannot be prevented, Safer New Mexico Now is committed to battling those factors which can be.
