Safer New Mexico Now Services

As COVID-19 is present in New Mexico, we recognize many organizations are responding to the pandemic according to their established protocol.  Safer New Mexico Now (Safer) is working to maintain the highest standard of continuous service to our community.  However, some of the changes being made at our partner organizations may impact services, including the New Mexico Child Safety Seat Distribution Program, Car Seat Fitting Stations and Clinics, and the New Mexico Law Enforcement Training Program.

Your safety and wellbeing are a high priority for Safer. We understand these services are vital to the daily basic needs and welfare of our community members.   For additional information about our services please contact us at 1-800-231-6145.

Postponed Services
Due to the heightened outbreak of COVID-19, and in compliance with the Governor’s mandates the following services have been postponed:

  • All in-person Car Seat Fitting Stations and Clinics have been postponed. Virtual Car Seat Education Sessions are available by appointment. Please call 1-800-231-6145 for more information.
  • Several New Mexico Child Safety Seat Distribution Program sites have ceased services. Please contact Safer at 1-800-231-6145 for more information regarding specific sites.

Please check back here for further updates.

Do You Need a Car Seat?

The New Mexico Child Safety Seat Distribution Program helps low-income families get access to car seats at a low cost (these are not free).  Due to the public health emergency and the Governor’s current restrictions, several distribution sites have ceased services and many others are providing service by appointment only.  If you need help getting access to a car seat, please contact Safer at 1-800-231-6145 or 505-856-6143 and we can direct you to the nearest location with available services.

Do You Need your Car Seat Inspected? Sign up for a Virtual Car Seat Education Session today!

We know the safety of your little ones is of the utmost importance. Unfortunately, due to the Governor’s current restrictions, we are unable to provide in-person car seat inspections.  We assure you we will resume regular service as soon as it is safe for your family and for our technicians working with you.  In the meantime, we are offering Virtual Car Seat Education Sessions. Sessions are conducted every first and third Wednesday of the month between noon and 2 p.m. Sessions are by appointment only. All participants will be required to electronically sign a waiver of liability prior to the start of the session.  To participate in the virtual session, parents and caregivers must have a valid email address, access to the Internet or Wi-Fi, and the ability to use Zoom via the app or website. Zoom can be downloaded by visiting https://zoom.us/   For more information, or to make an appointment, please all 1-800-231-6145.
