Rules for Child Safety Seat Distribution

Employees currently certified as NHTSA Child Passenger Safety technicians or employees who have attended the required four-hour training provided by Safer may distribute child safety seats through this program.

Child safety seats are distributed to parents or legal guardians who meet the income requirements of the program.

Child Safety Seat Registration

Fill out the registration card that comes attached to the harness strap of each new child safety seat and mail it for the recipient. Ask the recipient for a permanent address for this form; no postage is required. Mailing the registration card for the recipient ensures that they will be notified in the event of a manufacturer recall.

Printed Materials

Each child safety seat recipient must receive the brochures listed below:

4 out of 5 Car Seats Are Used Wrong
The Most Common Form of Child Neglect

Videos

Each child safety seat recipient must watch the Don't Risk Your Child's Life VI video in order to receive a seat. Please inform parents that Safer does not recommend placing a blanket underneath a child in the child safety seat as seen in the video. A thin receiving blanket may be rolled tightly and placed on either side of the child, but it may not come between the child and the harness. The video will be provided to your agency by Safer. Please inform Safer if your agency needs replacement videos or videos in Spanish.
