Education and Outreach
Through education, advocacy, and targeted outreach efforts,
Safer
seeks to reduce the incidence of death and injury for children in motor vehicle crashes.
Safer
is the State's sole source organization administering the NHTSA
National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program. Additionally,
Safer
conducts inspection events to educate parents and caregivers on the correct selection and use of their car seats and booster seats.
Child safety seat inspection events, including clinics and fitting stations, are held several times each month in various locations throughout the State.
Safer
has established eight permanent fitting stations as consistent resource for families.
In order to reach some of the most vulnerable children in New Mexico,
Safer
coordinates and manages a
child safety seat distribution program. With the support of hospitals and healthcare clinics, low-income families are provided child safety seats and instruction on their proper use. Several of these sites serve primarily Spanish-speaking populations. All distribution sites receive educational resources from the
IPRC throughout the year.
